Jason Lamb was overjoyed when his partner announced that she was pregnant. However, his joy did not last long, as he was told by his doctors that his kidneys had failed and were functioning at only 3% of his capacity.
A man’s world falls apart when his common symptoms lead to a devastating diagnosis.
Jason Lamb was overjoyed to find out his partner Claire was pregnant, but his joy was dashed when he started having cramps, was regularly thirsty and was constantly tired. Just weeks after finding out about his partner’s pregnancy test, he started coughing up blood and went to Whiston Hospital in Liverpool. But doctors told Jason, from St Helens, that his kidneys were failing and working at only 3% capacity.
“I was in shock. My brother was diagnosed three months before me. I had a genetic test done, but it’s not hereditary, so it was sudden. My world came crashing down.” He started PD dialysis, but treatment failed and his health deteriorated.
Jason, who welcomed son Jenson in June 2022, told the Liverpool Echo: “I couldn’t even walk up the stairs. I started hemodialysis and they managed to remove 22kg of fluid from my body. “I was able to do it. But I really need hemodialysis.” kidney. “
Although Jason is on the transplant list, he is appealing to people to come forward and get tested to see if they are suitable to donate their vital organs. “I’m on the transplant list for a deceased donor, but I’m only 28 years old and the doctors said it’s important to try to get a transplant from a living donor. I’ve been on the transplant list for over two years. I’m on the list.’ But if I could get a living donor it could last much longer and I would probably need two or three transplants in my life.
“There is no pressure to donate a kidney to someone. You can just call and get more information about the process. The whole journey has been like a roller coaster. The only thing that gets me out of bed is The reason for this is my son. He has been a distraction for me. I have been on dialysis all my life and it is difficult. We cannot go on vacation and I have to do dialysis at home. I can’t leave my house for too long because I’m undergoing training. I have to do it for three hours a day, four hours a week.”
Jason took to social media to appeal to people to come forward and get tested, and the response was incredible. Partner Claire added: “We don’t want our son to grow up without a father. It was a big shock. When we found out I was pregnant, no one knew. Five days before my grandfather passed away… “I found out Jason was dead,” he added. Kidney failure was a huge shock. A whirlwind broke out. I never thought it would happen to me. I wish someone would come forward and help. Even if I can’t save him, I might be able to save someone else. other than that. “
Jason added on his social media: “Dialysis keeps me alive and I’m grateful for it, but it only lasts 5-10 years. My son is 20 months old now, and I’m all I’m doing it for my son. I understand,” he added. It’s a big ask, but he needs a father. So, if you made it to the end of this post, thank you for reading. And please share widely in hopes that someone will donate a kidney for me. No pressure at all, but if you’re interested in donating, please message me and I’ll tell you how to get tested. ”
