The weather in Florida could decide the fate of the four teams in Group A vying to qualify for the Super Eight stage.
Who: America vs Ireland
what: ICC T20 World Cup Group A matches
when: Friday 14th June, 10:30am local time (14:30 GMT)
where: Broward Park Stadium, Lauderhill, Florida, USA
How to follow: Al Jazeera’s live coverage begins at 11:30 GMT
While most of the attention has been on the pitch in Group A, with New York coming under particularly harsh criticism, all eyes are on the skies with the final group games in Florida on Friday and Sunday, where the weather forecasts for the USA v Ireland on Friday and Pakistan v Ireland on Sunday make it unlikely that the matches will even be played.
India have already qualified top of their group, while the United States is in the running for second place after two wins, including against Pakistan. Pakistan still have hopes of progressing in second place, but things could get out of hand before their match against Ireland on Sunday.
Not everything is set in stone and, weather permitting, the final two rounds of Group A could be tense.
weather forecast
Roads were flooded in Broward County and weather warnings were issued for local residents.
Local weather forecasts indicate an 80 per cent chance of heavy rainfall which could cause further flooding, which does not bode well for players and fans of both teams, nor the people of Pakistan.
What happens when it rains in Florida?
Once a match has started, both teams must play at least five overs to be considered a match. If play is possible, there will be 90 minutes of extra time to complete the match.
If the weather is as forecast, the game may be called off without a ball being thrown.
If a match is abandoned, each team will be awarded one point, meaning the United States will have five points from four matches and will have secured a place in the Super Eight ahead of Pakistan, Canada and Ireland.
Even if the 2009 champions beat Ireland in their final game, they will likely not pick up more than four points in total.
Pitch Condition
This will be the first time the pitch has been used in the tournament after the match between Nepal and Sri Lanka was rained out and no ball was bowled.
Par scores have been recorded at this venue in the past, but a flurry of rain showers and thunderstorms could make for a more even contest between bat and ball.
Face to face
Both teams have won one match each in the two T20 encounters so far.
Form Guide
Despite the loss to India, the Americans will be heartened by their performances against some of the sport’s biggest stars and a string of confidence-boosting results.
Ireland have had a forgettable tournament so far, with losses to India and Canada, and will view this match as a turning point.
