HIDE in Mayfair is a Michelin-starred restaurant, but the prices on its breakfast menu have recently caused controversy.
Customers were left stunned to discover that scrambled eggs on toast could cost a whopping £58.
The breakfast dish costs £36 per serving, but if you add the white truffle it’s an extra £58.
White truffles are known as one of the most expensive foods.
Expensive fungi are difficult to grow and take years to cultivate, making them rare and valuable.
However, customer opinions are divided about this sumptuous dish.
One said: “The food was basic and lacked the wow factor.
“Just adding truffles to bread doesn’t automatically make you a chef.
“Overall, we tried but weren’t completely convinced by our experience.
“Furthermore, the pricing was unusually high for no apparent reason.”
Another critic added that the dish was “tasteless” and “couldn’t even smell it.” [the truffle]”.
However, while some guests were perplexed by the bill, others were impressed and satisfied with the breakfast offerings.
Another customer disagreed, saying: “It’s worth every bite and they don’t shy away from truffles like other London restaurants do.”
Another visitor said the food was a “must try” and another added: “The food is expensive but you pay for the experience.”
The fine-dining restaurant’s breakfast menu includes beluga caviar from £190, avocado toast from £20 and tea from £16.
