Staff working at London Overground are planning to go on strike in February and March after members of the Railway, Maritime and Transport (RMT) trade union refused to offer them pay.
More than 300 members will participate in the 48-hour period from 12:01 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024 to 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, and again at midnight on Monday, March 4, 2024. I will be out for 48 hours from 1:00 p.m. to Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
Among those taking action are security guards, station staff, revenue managers and administrative staff.
The announcement came on the first day of another series of strikes organized by the train drivers’ union Aslef, which has shut down some of the country’s busiest rail lines.
RMT announced that Arriva Rail London, which has a contract with London Overground, offered below-inflation wages and its members voted overwhelmingly in favor of a strike.
Mick Lynch, RMT director general, said: “London Overground workers do vital work in providing services to Transport for London and supporting passengers on their journeys across London.
“Our members are furious that they have been offered below-inflation pay offers and want improvements commensurate with the value they bring to the company.
“If this dispute cannot be resolved, RMT is prepared to take long-term industrial action to obtain the pay rise that London Overground workers deserve.”
independent person has contacted the Department for Transport and Arriva Rail London for comment.
RMT members active on London Underground were due to withdraw earlier this month, but a planned plane strike was called off at the last minute as talks progressed with Transport for London.
From January 30th, train drivers affiliated with Aslef will be suspended from work in each region for one week from Tuesday, January 30th to Monday, February 5th. Thousands of trains will be canceled every day.
The impact was further exacerbated by the nine-day overtime ban from January 29th to February 6th.
