‘The world can’t wait’ – UK Defense Secretary confirms military aid to Ukraine delivered ‘at short notice’
Britain’s Defense Secretary has confirmed military aid has been poured into Ukraine “at short notice”.
“The world can’t wait,” Grant Shapps said, calling on countries to “step up” and support Kiev’s fight against Russia.
Items sent by Britain include 80 defense missiles, 1 million rounds of ammunition and 20 Viking amphibious protected vehicles.
Mr Shapps’ tweet came after he called on allies to allow the use of Ukrainian-supplied weapons against targets in Russia-annexed Crimea.
“We have been very clear to the world and have cooperated with Ukraine. For example, we have authorized the use of our weapons throughout Ukraine, including in Crimea, which Putin occupied in 2014. ” he said. BBC Sunday, Laura Kuenssberg:
“At this point, we are not talking about how we will authorize other targeted use of our weapons. But we are providing our weapons to Ukraine so that Ukraine can protect itself.”
Regarding President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s call for Russia to have weapons ready for attacks on Russian soil, Mr Shapps said: “I will not go into the details of private conversations about exactly how the weapons will be used.” I can’t do that.”
