Ukraine launched a major attack early this morning on a Russian naval base in the occupied Crimean Peninsula.
At 1 a.m. today, Ukrainian forces attacked targets near the Kerch Bridge with precision-guided missiles.
A Ukrainian military source told Sky News that the Russian patrol boat Mangast was destroyed in the attack.
The source also confirmed that Western-supplied weaponry was used, adding that “despite the concentration of Russian air defense systems, they proved extremely effective against this Russian military target.”
Crimea’s Russia-appointed transport chief, Nikolai Lukashenko, claimed in a Telegram message that two transport ferries had been damaged in a nighttime Ukrainian attack.
The Kerch Bridge, which connects Russia to Crimea across the Kerch Strait and is regularly used by Moscow as a logistical base for military supplies, was built in 2018, four years after Russia illegally annexed Crimea.
Ukraine has frequently attacked the bridge since the war began, with Kiev sending two suicide drones to attack it in July last year, damaging part of the road bridge.
