TRIGGER warning against Shakespeare’s works was the Bard’s idea and fiction should not be “whitewashed”, the Culture Secretary warned today.
Snowflake campaigners are calling for works by Britain’s most famous playwright to come with a warning that they may be offended.
But Lucy Fraser slammed the idea, telling The Sun:
She cautioned against treating audiences with kid gloves, saying, “I think people who go to the theater should be treated in an adult manner.”
And following controversy over the rewriting of great novelists such as children’s favorite Roald Dahl and Bond’s Ian Fleming, the culture secretary said: ‘I don’t think our literature should be whitewashed. .
“It’s very important when you read something that you don’t overprotect the public.”
Earlier this month, British actor and national treasure Ralph Fiennes called for trigger warnings to be removed from theaters.
He argued that audiences should be “shocked and shaken” when they go to see a play.
Ms Fraser accused Sir Keir Starmer and the Labor Party of trying to undermine Britain and bring down statues.
“I think we should protect our history,” she said.
“The shadow culture secretary is in favor of removing the statue and we are talking about it, but I don’t think that is the right thing to do.”
The Culture Secretary slammed the Labor leader, saying: ‘Sir Keir does not celebrate the great British culture we have.
“All I hear from the Labor Party is contempt for Britain.
“I think we’re great and we’re leading the world.”
Ms Fraser told The Sun at British Film Institute headquarters: “I’m proud to be British. this country”.
