I tried Aldi’s beauty products for the first time this week and I can see why so many people love them. In addition to the price, the quality is also excellent. This was a pleasant surprise considering the brand is affordable.
I’ve shopped at Aldi many times for food, but I’ve never had a chance to check out the SpecialBuys aisle. After reading all kinds of positive reviews online and seeing people rave about his supermarket’s affordable Lacura range on TikTok and Instagram, I wanted to know what I was missing. I was thinking.
I managed to get my hands on the bargain retailer’s upcoming beauty range to see if the Lacura hype is real. Its new collection includes two of her Fenty-inspired lip glosses, and fans of Rihanna will love the pop star’s popular gloss bombs Her Universal Her Lip Her Luminizer (£15.30) Save money.
There’s also a gorgeously scented body cream, scalp scrub, lightweight skin tint, and multi-peptide hair and scalp serum. Each product costs just £3.99, while the skin tint costs £4.99. This alone is enough to make you want to give it a try.
I usually buy most of my beauty products from Selfridges or Boots. However, higher doesn’t necessarily mean better, so be open to trying different places.
The product is scheduled to be released in stores nationwide on March 17th, so it’s not too long from now. Luckily, I was able to try out the new collection in advance. Even better, all Lacura products are dermatologically tested and not tested on animals, making them perfect for my sensitive skin.
Aldi Lacura Fenty inspired Gloss Boss Lip Gloss – £3.99
The first product I tried was Aldi’s Gloss Boss Lip Gloss, which comes in two different shades: Pretty In Pink and In The Buff. Aldi says the new lip products promise to provide “the perfect amount of shine and hydration”.
The budget retailer also says, “The pout looks plumper and smoother, and has a light scent of delicious vanilla.” As you can see from the photo, In The Buff has an orange tint to it, while Pretty In Pink, surprisingly, is more pink.
However, there isn’t much difference between the two when it comes to color, including when applied to the lips. However, what I would like to say is that they gave an incredible glow and didn’t feel too sticky, which is something I dislike.
I could still feel the product on my lips an hour after application and my lips felt softer and moisturized. So, I tend to use lip glosses more for shine and moisture than for color. If this comes out, I’ll happily buy it at the store.
Aldi Lacura Perfect Skin Tint – £4.99
The second product I tried was Aldi’s new Lacura Perfect Skin Tint, which costs £4.99 for a 30ml bottle and comes in six shades ranging from fair to dark. I had shade number 3 and was surprised at how well it matched my skin tone.
They say the best way to check if your foundation, concealer, or skin tint matches your skin tone is to apply it on the inside of your forearm. This is because it is the same color as your face.
Aldi says its “lightweight” tinted moisturizer “offers buildable coverage that effortlessly evens out skin tone.” She added: “This formula blurs the appearance of imperfections, just like the Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Bluring Skin Tint, £23.”
I really liked that it was light and easy to apply. When I looked at it from a distance, it seemed like it was blurred, but when I looked at it up close, I felt that the skin lines were more visible. Without it.
On the other hand, I was really happy with how my skin tone evened out. It might not be the first skin tint you rush out to buy when you need something new, but I wouldn’t mind using it again for a casual outing.
Aldi Lacura Body Cream, Scrub and Hair Serum – £3.99
Last but not least are Aldi’s Body Cream, Scalp and Body Scrub, and the Supermarket’s Multi-Peptide Hair and Scalp Serum. I needed to wash my hair anyway and I hate healthy hair, so I was very excited to use these products.
I was particularly impressed with the Lacura Body Cream. Not only did it absorb well into my skin and didn’t leave a bad odor, it also smelled divine. I would buy it again just to smell it. A few hours after applying the product, there was a slight smell left on my arms and my skin felt softer.
Aldi describes the £3.99 body cream as a product with a “luxurious floral scent” that “absorbs quickly” and provides “long-lasting hydration”. Enriched with coconut oil, squalane and cupuaçu butter, the “ultra dreamy” cream “soothes” and promotes a “radiant glow.” It also offers a competitive saving of £30 compared to Quai’s version (£32).
When it comes to scalp and body scrubs, I love using scrubs on my body, but I wasn’t sure how it would be when I used them on my hair. After using it on my arms and legs, my skin felt nourished and very smooth, even though the sugar crystals were quite thick.
When I used it on my scalp, it felt pretty weird, didn’t lather as much as I expected, and left a lot of sugar crystals all over my hair. But, and that’s a big thing, after rinsing everything out, my hair felt so much cleaner. Oddly enough, it was so clean that my scalp felt like it was squeaking. So, I will definitely use it again on days when I need to give my hair a deep wash.
The hair and scalp serum felt great when I applied a few drops to my scalp and hair after blow-drying. It’s similar to The Ordinary’s Multi-Peptide Hair Density Serum (£13.50), which is formulated with pea and soy extracts and density-promoting ‘stimulant’ caffeine.
It claims to strengthen your hair “from the roots” by leaving it on overnight. I’m not sure if it’s the serum or the scalp scrub, but after using both products, when I woke up this morning, my hair was still so clean and soft and it felt like it had slightly more volume at the roots. I did. Coincidentally, I don’t think so.
Conclusion and alternatives
Overall, I loved trying out Aldi’s beauty products and I totally understand why Lacura gets so many compliments. Not only is it very affordable, it can easily compete with much more expensive big brands.
I’ll still be using the lip gloss, scalp scrub, hair serum, and body cream when this range hits stores on March 17th. These products add up to around £16, which is still pretty cheap for four items.
Aldi isn’t the only retailer offering private label beauty and skin care products. At Boots, you can check out a variety of No7 products, from skincare to makeup. No7 Beautiful Skin Gorgeous Glow Body Scrub is available for £12 and No7 High Shine Lipgloss is available for £7.50.
No7 Lip Gloss has a 4 out of 5 star rating. In her review, Leena said, “I love this lip gloss…it’s a nice neutral color with a nice sheen to it.” Sharon added: “I absolutely love this lip gloss. It gives a great shine and changes the color of any lip I’m wearing.” However, Laura says, “It was so sticky that her hair got stuck and I had to reapply it about 2 million times.”
At Superdrug, you can check out Studio London Power Pout Color Gloss for £6 and Vitamin E All Over Body Cream for £5.99. The customer score for the body cream is 4.7 out of 5.
One shopper said: “This is perfect for my sensitive skin. I’ve been using it for years and wouldn’t buy anything else. I highly recommend it and the price is right.” said. “I started using this body cream and loved it so much that I bought the larger size this time.” However, a third person wrote, “It’s very greasy and not good for dry skin.”
