In a joint effort to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities (PWD) in Bungo Town, a significant distribution of assistive devices has been made, marking a milestone in support for people with disabilities in the region. The initiative, a partnership between the Red Cross, Bungo County Government and CBM Global Kenya, saw an event held at the Bungo Red Cross office to deliver essential transportation and hearing aids to those in need.
partnership for progress
During the ceremony, Toyogoma District Health and Sanitation CEC, Dr. Andrew Wamalwa, praised the collaborative effort and emphasized its importance to the community. “This is a great commitment to our country. Partnerships like this will help our people live a fulfilling life,” he said. The aids distributed included a standard tricycle, various types of crutches, hearing aids, safety glasses, surgical boots, and wheelchairs. These gadgets are set to significantly improve the daily lives of people with disabilities, allowing them to move and communicate better.
Promoting self-sufficiency
Dr. Wamalwa also highlighted the county’s commitment to inclusivity and empowerment of persons with disabilities and encouraged them to take advantage of the county’s tenders reserved for persons with disabilities. This initiative not only supports their mobility and communication needs, but also aims to promote economic empowerment and self-sufficiency for the disabled community in Bungo Town. In addition, the county has begun screening for rehabilitation to identify specific needs and ensure the right equipment is provided to those who need it most.
Ongoing support and rehabilitation
The county’s commitment to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities goes beyond distributing equipment. Dr Wamalwa announced the hiring of five professionals to provide rehabilitation services across the county, demonstrating a long-term commitment to supporting people with disabilities. CBM Global And the Red Cross’ selection of Bungo Town for this initiative reflects its potential to have a significant positive impact on people with disabilities in the region, enabling them to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.
The distribution of assistive devices in Bungo Town is a ray of hope and a testament to the power of partnership and community support. By addressing mobility and hearing issues, this initiative not only improves the daily lives of people with disabilities, but also integrates them more fully into the fabric of society. As these people gain greater independence and the ability to participate more actively in their communities, Bungoma explores how collaboration and targeted support can break down barriers and create a more inclusive world for everyone. We set a precedent for what can be achieved.
