Canberra: Tibet’s unique cultural traditions were showcased in Australia’s capital Canberra during the three-day National Multicultural Festival from 16 to 18 February 2024.
Canberra’s Tibetan community once again took part in the festival, with thousands of Canberrans enjoying delicious Tibetan food, performances and culture.
The stall was visited by the ACT Premier, the Honorable Andrew Barr, who enjoyed several meals. Momos (Tibetan dumplings) and thanked the Tibetan community for their continued contribution to the wider Canberra community.
The community also showcased Tibet’s distinct and unique culture through lively performances and participation in cultural parades. Waving Tibetan flags, with a large photo of His Holiness the Dalai Lama leading the way, local residents, especially teachers and students from Thongmi Tibetan Language School, took part in the cultural parade, followed by Yak and Tashi Shorpa dancers, much to the delight of the crowd. The Tibetan Cultural Center (TCC), an operation of the Canberra-based Tibet Office, also participated in the festival, distributing books by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as well as general information about Tibet. Visitors were able to learn more about Tibetan culture and religion, as well as the activities of the TCC and Tibetan Information Agency.
The Australian National Multicultural Festival is an annual event that brings together people from diverse ethnicities and nationalities to showcase their unique cultures and traditions.
