In my eyes, when it comes to product innovation, no brand does it more than Danessa Myrix Beauty. That being said, while I’m a beauty enthusiast and a fan of the brand overall, I’m also probably one of the biggest skeptics you’ll ever meet due to my experience as a beauty editor. This is why when this brand launched their “Water Powder” serum, my eyebrows rose so high they almost floated off my face.
The juxtaposition of these words may have short-circuited your brain as well. Cosmetic formulations usually do not mix liquids and powders. What I like about Danessa Myrix Water Powder Serum
I won’t lie. I went into this task fully expecting this product to not work. But when I applied it for the first time, it immediately went silent. This product is a regular serum that comes out of a tube, but when I put it on my face, it dries to a powder-like smooth finish.
It was a very strange experience. My fingers glided over my face as if I had just baked it for 30 minutes, but all I had on was serum. That was so cool. I have a sneaking suspicion that the matte finish of this product has something to do with the kaolin clay it’s formulated with, as it seems to float in the liquid of the serum. That being said, I’m a big fan of clay masks, but they tend to get uncomfortable after they dry completely. I think that’s the tingly feeling I felt with this water powder serum.
Still, since I wear glasses, I usually get a little bit of oil buildup around the bottom edge of my frames (right near my nose), but with this product combination, there was no sign of oil anywhere. After about two hours, my face felt a little less tight, but still, there was no sign of oiliness, which is common at that point in the day.
How to use Danessa Myrix Water Powder Serum
There is a sticker on the bottom of the serum that tells you to squeeze it out without shaking it. He presses the trampoline-like dispenser once and gets enough product for about a third of his face if he wants to use the serum all over his face. I like to concentrate on my T-zone and blend, so I opted for a total of 2 pumps before applying with my fingers. For the best powder-like effect, wait until it dries. The skin will get a decidedly silky and satiny finish, and especially if you have oily skin, you can create a perfect base before applying makeup. I personally used it as a primer, but you can also use it all over your face to re-matt your skin if you wish.

Things to consider about Danessa Myrix Water Powder Serum
The brand recommends using this product with other products in the “Yummy” line, so I applied Yummy Skin Bluring Balm Powder ($36) in shade 8 over it. This left my skin matte to the point of being almost uncomfortable.
I tried just the serum on another occasion, but I didn’t feel any tightness. This makes me wonder if it was the addition of the Yummy Skin Balm that made it dry for me, since it is also an oil-absorbing product. Therefore, we recommend making sure your skin is well hydrated before using a water powder serum (use with caution if you have dry skin). For those with dry skin, using this product may make you want to ditch all your oil-control primers. It’s very effective.
