Tyson Fury has come under fire recently as many feel he is not properly prepared for his fight with Francis Ngannou. He has now revealed that his training camp will be short in order to compete for four belts with Oleksandr Usyk.
In a TNT Sports feature filmed around the time of the launch press conference in November, Fury said he hasn't been to the gym and won't go for another five weeks before the fight.
“I don't even go to the gym. I'm not in the gym. I don't train that far away. Now, who do you think I'm talking to? A professional athlete? For this fight. I’ll be training for four or five weeks.”
Asked about his claim that he had trained hard for 12 weeks for Ngannou (who won by split decision in October but suffered an early knockdown), Fury seemed to suggest that was an exaggeration. .
“like [I said] I trained for Wilder and everyone else for 12 weeks. 4 or 5 weeks. How much training does a man need? Three or four weeks of sparring and a week of rest. end. “
“We've been boxing ever since we were little. How much training does it take? I don't think you'll ever forget how to box, but it's not a fitness competition, right? So over five weeks? I don't think you need any training.”
Fury said the only difference with his camp was the southpaw sparring.
When asked how his camp compares, Usyk's response showed he has been training much harder.
“I can box non-stop for five weeks.”
The preparations that both players have made will be revealed on February 17th. The last undisputed heavyweight champion, Lennox Lewis, will be in attendance that day to hand over the belt to the new champion.
