important facts
MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where both New York NFL teams play, and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, where the Dallas Cowboys play, are rumored to be the favorites.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino visited MetLife Stadium and AT&T Stadium last year and watched games at both stadiums.

tangent
All 11 U.S. stadiums used for the 2026 tournament will be used for NFL games, but many will require changes to aspects of the field. AT&T and MetLife are among the few stadiums required to replace artificial turf with grass before football games. Some stadiums will have to resize their fields to meet FIFA’s 75-by-115-yard field requirements for World Cup games. The Associated Press reported last month that MetLife Stadium plans to remove 1,740 seats to widen the field enough to meet FIFA requirements.
Main background
Over 100 games will be played in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Guadalajara, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Miami, Monterrey, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Toronto and Vancouver. The last time a World Cup match was held in the United States was in 1994. That year’s finals were held at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, where the UCLA Bruins played. Meanwhile, this will be Canada’s first time hosting the World Cup, and Mexico’s third.
