London has the highest cost of living in the country, so Londoners will want to be paid accordingly. Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to be the case for everyone. Five London boroughs have been found to have the lowest wages in the UK, according to a study by the Living Wage Foundation (LWF).
Haringey, Brent, Waltham Forest, Bexley and Redbridge all have the highest number of low-paid jobs relative to the cost of living, the research found.
The Jobs for Employees Paying Below the Living Wage report uses data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to find out where in the UK real wages below the living wage are highest. Ta. The real living wage calculated by LWF differs from the national living wage, which does not take into account the cost of living in different regions. LWF says its real living wage rate is “the only UK wage rate that is independently calculated based on the cost of living”.
At the time of the survey in April 2023, the real living wage was calculated at £11.95 an hour in London and £10.90 in the rest of the world.
In Haringey, almost a third (32.7%) of people were earning less than the real living wage. This was followed by Brent (29.5%) and Waltham Forest (28.8%). percent), Bexley (28.5 percent) and Redbridge (28.2 percent).
The top 10 worst-paying places in the UK also included Harrow in Lancashire, Harrow in London, Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, East Lindsey in Lincolnshire and Thanet in Kent.
