Hafthor Bjornsson is less than a month away from his long-awaited return to the Arnold Classic. The world-renowned strongman suffered a severe tear in his pectoral muscle last April while training to return to the competitive stage. Although his injury and subsequent surgery have certainly hampered his preparation, Bjornsson is focusing on his strength in the deadlift for the 2024 Arnold Classic.

Many thought Hafthor Björnsson would take a long time to recover after suffering a torn pectoral muscle. The 6-foot-9 strongman may not be able to compare to his peers on the bench press, but he does his best on the deadlift. Bjornsson was one of the few men to clear the 1,000-pound barrier. Despite the injury, the WSM winner appears to have gotten even stronger as he deadlifted 1000.9 pounds during training.
In the video, the Icelander starts with a deadlift of 133 kg (293 lbs) and rises to a whopping 454 kg (1000.9 lbs). What’s even more impressive is that the 35-year-old was doing what strong men and powerlifters call raw lifts. Hafthor Bjornsson didn’t use wrist wraps or a lifting suit, just raw Icelandic strength. Some fans pointed out that his eternal rival Eddie Hall did a similar challenge faster, while others pointed out that Bjornsson had more lifts than Hall. Most fans were shocked to see the winner of Arnold’s Classic His Strongman quickly regain his strength and physique.
