Scotland hero David Speedie has slammed the decision to award England a game-changing penalty against the Netherlands.
Gareth Southgate’s side have qualified for Sunday’s Euro 2024 final but were struggling with a goal behind before referee Felix Zubayaer reversed his initial decision on VAR advice and awarded a penalty after Denzel Dumfries tackled Harry Kane.
Bayern Munich striker Kane followed through on a Dutch defender and shot wide of the goal.
Initially, referee Zubayer only awarded a goal kick, but it was sent in front of the monitor after what was deemed a “clear and obvious error”.
And former Chelsea and Scotland star Speedy was clearly not happy with the decision.
He thought it was the worst decision in world football since the controversial incident in which Geoff Hurst scored to restore the lead against West Germany during England’s home victory in the 1966 World Cup.

“It’s the biggest fraud in football since that goal in 1966,” Speedy said.
“It wasn’t a pen. The Dutchman was stolen.”
Not everyone spoke in such strong terms, with former Scotland hero Ally McCoist equally appalled by the decision.
Commentating from the ITV booth, the hero of Rangers’ nine-game winning streak said: “Harry Kane actually kicked him.”
“For me it’s not a penalty.
“And I don’t think for a second that it’s a clear and obvious mistake.”
ITV’s Euro 2024 referee commentator Christina Unkel admitted she was surprised the incident had been checked because “this is not a clear and obvious mistake.”
“Kane is making shots and he’s on a roll,” she said.
