Joachim Low has revealed that he headed straight to the toilet after winning the World Cup, even though he didn’t need to.
The 64-year-old German led his country to glory in 2014.
After Die Mannschaft won 1-0 against Argentina with Mario Götze’s winning goal in extra time, Loew felt a little overwhelmed.
Speaking about his experience on the ARD podcast, he said, “It’s hard to explain, but I wanted to be alone.
“I locked myself in the bathroom because there were people everywhere on the plane, but I wanted to feel it.
“Did that really happen? Or was it just a dream?”
Lowe further elaborated on why he headed to the Maracanã changing room, saying: “I wanted to be alone somehow, but of course it was difficult to be alone.
“Let’s just say my mood wasn’t as high as I thought it was before, but if you win the World Cup, I didn’t expect that.”
After celebrating back in Germany, Lowe headed to Sardinia for a family trip.
However, he still didn’t feel the high he had expected, saying: “I woke up many times during the night with situations that were on my mind.

“I didn’t sleep well, and then I felt tired and heavy from inside. It all came together, and to be honest, the next few days were not easy.”
Low remained with the German national team, overseeing the World Cup and two further European Championships.
However, he was unable to replicate his previous success and resigned in 2021.
The veteran manager has not returned to the dugout since his retirement and has not been involved in club management since managing Austrian side Vienna in the 2003-04 season.
Despite this, he claims he is not retiring.
He added: “We will talk openly about it over the summer and then consider the options available to us.”
