The Mumbai Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory in view of the victory parade of the Indian cricket team after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the team will fly to Mumbai and take part in a victory parade on an open bus, followed by a celebration at the Wankhede Stadium. Captain Rohit Sharma and BCCI Secretary General Jay Shah also took to social media yesterday to urge fans to take part in the victory parade. Captain Sharma posted to X, “Fellow Indians, we want to enjoy this special moment with you all. Let’s celebrate this victory with a victory parade on 4th July at 5pm at Marine Drive & Wankhede. We’re coming home.”
An official told the news agency: PTI The victory parade will begin at 5 pm today. The march will take place from Nariman Point to the Wankhede Stadium between 5 pm to 7 pm.
These roads will remain closed today
According to Mumbai Traffic Police, traffic restrictions from NCPA to Wankhede Stadium will continue from 3 pm to 9 pm. X’s post read, “In view of the Indian cricket team’s victory rally, traffic may be congested from NCPA to Wankhede Stadium on July 4 between 15:00 and 21:00. Northbound journeys are advised to use alternate routes via Churchgate, MK Road, Metro Junction and Princess Street Flyover. Southbound traffic towards Wankhede Stadium may also be congested. Please plan your journey accordingly.”
Earlier, speaking to a news agency Ani, DCP Zone 1 Pravin Munde said, “A victory march in open buses will be held on Marine Drive between Nariman Point and Wankhede Stadium from 5pm to 7pm. If you want to take part in the march, please reach there by 4.30pm and assemble on the promenade side and not on the road.”
The DCP further urged people to use public transport to avoid traffic jams. “The victory lap will be held at the Wankhede Stadium from 7 pm. If you wish to participate, please reach the stadium by 6 pm and be seated. Please use public transport to avoid traffic jams,” he added.
Tight security is in place in Mumbai today.
Mumbai Police has made extensive security arrangements for the victory parade of the T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team scheduled for Thursday evening. Officials told PTI that a large number of fans are expected to assemble eager to catch a glimpse of the parade. Considering the expected crowd, police are taking maximum precautions to prevent any potential incidents. Security personnel will be deployed along Marine Drive from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium to maintain order and security during the event.
