The 125,000 square foot facility, located off Ambrose Street in Ashbury, will replace an existing 1970s industrial warehouse.
Storage World, which operates three sites across Greater Manchester, submitted proposals for the Ardwick scheme in 2022.
The £8 million development will be built on a 1.2 acre site and will consist of between 800 and 1,000 storage units.
Manchester City Council has now approved the five-storey project.
The scheme will be Storage World’s second facility in Manchester, with the first located less than a mile from Ashton Old Road. His other two locations are in Middleton and Airport City.
P4 Planning advised Storage World on the application, and Bate and Taylor Architects led the design.

In addition to providing storage space, the project’s developers expect some of the units to be used as small business housing.
Attracted by cheaper rents and flexible contracts, more and more companies are turning to self-storage facilities as a workspace alternative.
