Sting’s youngest son, Giacomo Sumner, reportedly took a break from his career to follow in the footsteps of his parents and siblings and become a police officer.
One of Sting’s children has a career away from the entertainment industry, unlike his parents and five siblings.
Giacomo Sumner, 28, has reportedly joined the police force. He is the youngest son of singer Sting (72 years old, real name Gordon Sumner) and actor Trudie Styler (70 years old). His father was a member of the “new wave” band The Police, among others.
The Sun reports that Giacomo recently became an official of the fainting parade. Giacomo has been pursuing his childhood dream since posting on social media a few years ago that his dream has been to become a police officer since he was 13 years old.
His mother, Trudy, previously revealed that he studied criminal justice at California Lutheran University. She announced in a post uploaded to social media in 2020 that Giacomo would graduate from a US university with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in the field.
Giacomo is the youngest of Sting’s six children. The musician and his wife Trudy are also parents to Mickey Sumner, 40, Jake Sumner, 38, and Elliot Sumner, 33. The family also includes Sting’s eldest child, Joe Sumner, 47, and Fuchsia Sumner, 42, whom he shares with his first wife. Also included is Frances Tomelty, 75.
All of Sting’s children have pursued careers in the entertainment industry in some way. Giacomo appeared in several roles in his younger years, and his brothers are still in the industry, each with careers as producers, actors, and musicians.
Sting has previously said he does not expect to bequeath any wealth to his children. He teased that they “have to work” and said in 2014 that he didn’t want to leave them with “a trust fund that was like an albatross around my neck.”
“I told them we were spending money and there wouldn’t be much left,” he told the Mail on Sunday’s Events magazine. He said he and Trudy had “a lot of commitments”, adding that after the split there was “nothing left”.
The musician said that his children “have to work,” adding, “All my children know that and they rarely ask me for anything, which I appreciate. ” he added. But he also said that if his children were “in trouble” he would “help” them.
He also commented in an interview at the time that his children have a “work ethic” that makes them want to “succeed on their own.” Speaking about his own experience, he told the outlet: “If everything was handed to me on a plate, I’m not sure I would have appreciated it or survived.”
