BBC Director-General Tim Davie paid tribute to Mr Wright following the news, saying: “He was a truly great broadcaster who was a huge part of our lives for decades.” Ta.
The DJ lived in a luxury apartment block where two-bed apartments can sell for £1.5 million.
His apartment was less than 10 minutes walk from the BBC station.
A neighbor on Wednesday described Wright as a “nice guy.”
“He was a really nice guy, just a normal guy. He said, ‘Hello,’ and opened the door for me,” he said.
A neighbor, who did not wish to be named, added: “I’ve been here eight years and he’s been here before that, so he’s been here for years now.
“He was very famous locally and used to hang around town. He didn’t have that far to go to work, but no, he was a really decent guy.”
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.19am on Monday, February 12, after the body of a man was discovered in a flat in the Marylebone area.
“Officers responded alongside paramedics from London Ambulance Service. A man in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been notified.
“The death was unexpected but is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be prepared for the coroner.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.07am on Monday 12 February to reports of an incident.
“We sent numerous resources to the scene. Very unfortunately, one person was confirmed deceased at the scene.”
