The stage is set in Aberdeen as the first venue for the 2024 City Para Swimming World Series Ltd British Para Swimming Championships, with many of the world’s top para swimmers kicking off their Paralympic year with four days of high quality racing.
The competition will run from Thursday 1st to Sunday 4th February, with 22 countries represented at Aberdeen Sports Village.
It will be the first time a World Series match has been held in front of fans at this venue since the closed-door version in 2022, and, like last year’s Sheffield Games, the event will be held alongside the British Para Swimming Winter Games. be done. .
The event is an important landmark for athletes in the UK and abroad, with just six months to go until the 2024 Paralympic Games.
It will be the last chance for British athletes to compete internationally in their home country before April’s British Swimming Championships, a key qualifying event for the Paris Games.
Great Britain enters the World Series competition as the largest team, with 57 players hoping to make an impact in the first tournament of the season.
They include Alice Tye, Ellie Challis and William Ellard, who helped Great Britain win 38 medals at last summer’s Manchester 2023 World Para Swimming Championships. They won 12 medals in Manchester and hope to continue that form in Scotland.
Paralympic medalists Rebecca Redfern, Jordan Catchpole and Tully Carney are also part of the British delegation as they continue to prepare for this summer’s Games.
A further 75 Brits will take part in the British Para Swimming International Winter Games as part of the programme, which will see British Para Swimming’s future stars compete in each block.
At each event, the National Meet finals will be held concurrently with the World Series finals, and heats will also be held at the same time.
The race will be held in a multi-class format with athletes’ times converted into World Para Swimming Points based on their classification.
