The Wagoners Reserve Museum in Threadmere Hall tells the history of the local regiment of Wagoners Reserves, and on Sundays there will be activities to reflect this.
The reserve was primarily made up of farm workers from Threadmere Farm, who transported horses and wagons to France.
On May 19th, 150 members of the Royal Logistics Corps will descend on Threadmere to see which regiment will be crowned 2024 Wagon Champions.
The Corps is working with museum and estate staff to put on this exciting event, which features challenge events such as the straw bale challenge, long rein tug of war, recourse to war messages, and gunfire.
Martin Watts comes from a museum background.
Visitors can enjoy fascinating demonstrations of a World War I ambulance with pony popcorn, military and museum stands, historic and modern military vehicles, and the 150 Regimental Band.
Martin tells us more about it:
The Northern Heavy Horse Society, horse owners and museum supporters will bring 15 horses on the day, including Percherons, Clydesdales and Shires.
Children can enjoy the assault course, observe Sledmere’s livestock and work up a sweat at Sledmere’s playground.
