The special counsel who oversaw a damning report alleging Joe Biden’s diminished mental capacity is scheduled to testify before Congress in March.
Robert Hur, tasked with investigating the president’s handling of classified documents, will testify before the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee on March 12.
After a year-long investigation, Mr. Xu released a report last week concluding that Mr. Biden “intentionally” retained classified materials after he left office as vice president in 2017.
But the jury would have had reasonable doubts about his motives because he is a “sympathetic and well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory,” the paper said.
The report also said Biden could not remember the date he was vice president or the year his son Beau died (2015).
House Republicans plan to question Mr. Huh about his comments about the president’s memory.
They also asked for audio recordings and transcripts of interviews with Biden conducted during the course of his year-long investigation.
Biden disputed the report’s findings at a White House press conference.
He said: “I have been seeing the headlines since the report on my intentional document retention was released. These claims are not only misleading, they are completely false. Additionally, my recollection of events… I am also aware that care has been taken with the wording of the report.
“Some documents don’t remember when my son died.
“How on earth could he say something like that? Frankly, when I was asked that question, I thought it was none of their business,” he said.
Fox News reporter Peter Doocy, who has repeatedly clashed with President Biden, asked, “How bad is your memory? Will you be able to continue as president?”
Mr. Biden retorted, “I had a bad memory, so I let him speak.”
Asked by another journalist if he thought his memory was failing, Mr. Biden replied: My memory hasn’t gotten worse. My memory is fine. Look at what I’ve done since I became president. ”
Confidential documents related to Afghanistan were previously found in the garage of Biden’s home in Delaware.
Ho’s report said the random way in which the classified material was stored supports the idea that Biden’s actions were unintentional.
The substance was “found in a broken box in the garage, in a dog bed, and near a Zappos.” [shoe retailer] There were boxes, empty buckets, broken lamps wrapped in duct tape, potting soil, and synthetic firewood,” the report states.
The president sought to differentiate himself from Trump, 77, who faces 40 criminal charges for resisting handing over documents after leaving the White House in 2021.
“It was in my house. It wasn’t out in public like Mar-a-Lago, it wasn’t highly classified,” Biden said.
Ho determined that 12 documents in Biden’s possession, along with 10 handwritten notebooks and two notecards, contained top secret information.
He blamed his aides, saying the document was “not moved by me, but by my staff.”
He added: “I wish they had paid more attention to how the documents were being moved.”
During the meeting, Biden confused Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi with the Mexican president when talking about the war in Gaza. This is the latest in a series of similar gaffes.
