A factory in East Yorkshire will manufacture most of London Underground’s new rolling stock, it has been announced.
Siemens Mobility has announced that 80% of the trains for the Piccadilly line will be produced at its Goole facility, which is scheduled to open in the spring, up from 50% previously announced.
According to the company, it is scheduled to enter service in 2025.
Samvit Banerjee, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Mobility, said: “This is a truly exciting milestone not only for our company, but also for our industry and local economy.
“The fact that we are increasing the amount of Piccadilly Line underground trains being built in Goole is a testament to our manufacturing capabilities.”

The company says the trains are designed to improve accessibility and be energy efficient.
Stuart Harvey, chief capital officer at Transport for London (TfL), said: “Increasing production of Piccadilly Line trains in Goole will support the local supply chain and shows how investment in London will benefit the whole of the UK. “It clearly shows that it will bring benefits to the public.”
TfL officials also said the Goole factory would produce new rolling stock for the Bakerloo Line if government funding was confirmed.
The Railway Village includes service facilities, logistics warehouses and development hubs.
Siemens Mobility said it would establish the region as a center of excellence for UK rail technology and create up to 700 jobs. It added that an additional 1,700 jobs will be created in the supply chain.
