Indian team batsman Shubman Gill has been cleared to play in the crucial third Test against England in Rajkot. He has recovered from his finger injury and is ready to join the team. This positive news eliminates concerns over Gill’s fitness, who was worried about a finger injury on his fourth day of the second Test.
Ajit Agarkar-led selectors will meet online this Friday to select the remaining squad for the five-Test series against England. Gill’s return to full fitness adds a valuable dimension to the team’s options.
The 24-year-old batsman, who had been suffering from a slump in form, made a spectacular comeback in India’s second innings by scoring a staggering 104 runs, contributing significantly to his team’s victory and tying the series at 1-1.
Gill’s fine performance was complemented by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s superb double century in the first innings, demonstrating the depth and resilience of India’s batting line-up. Fans had just begun to celebrate Gil’s improvement when worry clouded the air. During England’s second innings on the third day, he injured his finger while fielding, raising concerns about his fitness.
Addressing these concerns, Mr. Gill underwent a scan to assess the extent of the pain in his finger.
“Yesterday I had to undergo a test, so in the evening I was immediately taken to assess the pain in my finger, and they examined it and understood what my condition was.” he said after the second test.
Prior to this, team management also issued a statement confirming Gil’s injury. Before being sidelined with a finger injury, Gill made four catches in the slip cordon and showed his defensive talent. Gill also reassured fans that he was fine after returning from the scan.
India head coach Rahul Dravid praised Shubman Gill for showing resilience in the second Test. Dravid praised Gill’s ability to remain calm under pressure and score goals when it mattered most. Former cricketers Kevin Pietersen and Yuvraj Singh also praised the rising star.
Gil’s ability to bounce back from difficult times and perform under pressure highlights his character. With Kohli’s condition uncertain, the onus is on Gill to move up the batting order.
As anticipation builds for the third Test starting on February 15, the Indian cricket fraternity is looking forward to the return of key players and is hoping for continued good performances from Shubman Gill.
