BCB national selection committee chairman Ghazi Ashraf Hossain said the team had been waiting for Saifuddin’s call-up until the Zimbabwe series.
“We had kept Saifuddin in the squad that we submitted to the ICC on April 30. We wanted to observe and analyze his performance in the Zimbabwe series,” Hossain said. But when you think about what the team needs at the moment, Tanzim (Hasan Saqib) was above Saifuddin.
“There was a close call between the two. We watched Tanzim play against Sri Lanka. His dedication and greed have taken him far. He is also a very good fielder. Saifuddin was the only player changed from the squad we previously submitted to the ICC. ”
Hossain said of senior pacer Taskin Ahmed that he was selected despite injury concerns.
“The medical team has told us that Takin will be fit at some point during the T20 World Cup and that is why he is in the squad. If a replacement is required, please follow ICC policy These can be done later. But I don’t think Taskin will be available for this month’s series against America.”
Hossain said the team hopes to advance beyond the second round of the tournament.
“We are hopeful that the team can advance to the second round. If we can achieve that, we hope to advance further.
“His batting form is a cause for concern. We have to work hard to overcome this and hope our batsmen play according to their abilities.”
