The Scunthorpe woman and former travel and tourism student at North Lindsey University is only 20 years old but has already taken the fashion world by storm, appearing on the covers of international magazines such as Vogue, Elle and Marie Claire.
Gemma Frances Barnett began studying at North Lindsey College in 2019 after attending Axholme Academy. Five years later, she’s jet-setting around the world for editorial photoshoots, walking the runways for some of the biggest names in the fashion industry, and is represented by several modeling agencies from New York to Tokyo.
Gemma says of her university studies: “I chose to study Travel and Tourism at the University of North Lindsey because it looked like it would be more fun than any other course offered locally. By completing the course, I gained important transferable skills. I learned a few things and it really boosted my confidence.

“Since graduating from university, I have traveled all over the world for work and cherish every moment. A standout moment and my biggest personal achievement to date is working for Valentino It was my first time walking in a fashion show in Milan.”
Kayleigh Grierson, one of Gemma’s former tutors and now Curriculum Leader for Travel and Tourism, said:
“Gemma’s story is that North Lindsey College provides local young people with important life skills that will help them in a variety of jobs, as well as support and support to achieve their aspirations, whatever they may be. It’s a perfect example of how we can provide guidance.”
More success stories have emerged from North Lindsey University’s travel and tourism courses, with many students going on to various careers within the industry. Recently, former student Millie secured a job with the prestigious Emirates Airlines and moved to Dubai.
As someone who went from studying travel to traveling the world, when asked what advice she would give to young people who are unsure of their path in life, she replied, “Don’t worry too much, just choose what you enjoy.” Ta.
