The Prince of Wales will be performing official duties outside Windsor Castle for the first time since his wife’s surgery and the monarch’s cancer diagnosis.
Prince William will attend a gala dinner in central London to raise money for the London Air Ambulance Charity, as its patron.
Duchess Kate was discharged from hospital last Monday and returned to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor to be reunited with her three children after undergoing scheduled abdominal surgery at a London clinic on January 16.
The king was treated for an enlarged prostate at the same private hospital and was discharged on the same day as his daughter-in-law, but on Monday Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Charles had been diagnosed with “a type of cancer.”
The exact details of the princess’s condition have not been revealed, but Kensington Palace has previously said it is not cancer-related and that the Duchess would like her private medical information to be kept private.
The gala dinner is a fundraiser for London’s ambulance charity Up Against Time, which is seeking £15 million in donations to replace the air ambulance’s helicopter fleet by the autumn.
Mr William, a former East Anglia Air Ambulance pilot, will meet with crew members, former patients and supporters and give a short speech during the event.
London’s Air Ambulance Charity says there is growing consensus that victims of serious accidents die because specialist medical help is delayed and it takes longer to transport patients to hospital. It was established in 1989 in response to this.
The service pioneers the air ambulance doctor-on-board model and is intended to help hospital emergency departments reach the scene of an incident.
