Donald Trump was recently mocked by one of his former Republican allies for denying he knew anything about Project 2025, a 900-page proposal from the Heritage Foundation think tank aimed at radically restructuring the U.S. federal government to align it with hard-line conservatives.
“If you look at the contributors and the creators of this plan, this is outrageous,” Olivia Troye, a former adviser to Mike Pence, said on CNN.
“Many of these people served in the cabinet during the Trump administration. Some of them worked with me. I attended policy meetings with them.”
“What this tells us is that Donald Trump knows what’s in this plan is so extreme it will hurt his chances of getting elected, and that’s a concern for him,” Troye said, citing former Trump administration officials John McEntee, Stephen Miller, Ben Carson and Ken Cuccinelli.
Meanwhile, the world’s attention will once again be on President Joe Biden as he hosts a NATO summit in Washington DC amid ongoing concerns about his fitness to run for another term and renewed calls for him to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
Rubio has sought to distance himself from Project 2025 and Trump.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a leading contender to be President Donald Trump’s vice presidential nominee, on Sunday sought to distance top Republican candidates from Project 2025 and defended the former president.
“Think tanks do think tank work, they put out ideas, they speak out,” Rubio told CNN. Trade Union Status when asked if he was “happy” with the policies outlined in a project led by the conservative Heritage Foundation.
