Before the lights went down and models strutted down the runway in silky, glittery, feathery silhouettes at the FW24 Prabal Gurung show, the hair and makeup teams worked together to create the collection’s glamorous yet We have created a story of mysterious beauty.
When it comes to makeup, MAC’s Director of Makeup Artistry, Romero Jennings, drew inspiration from dark romance. In other words, he opted for an exaggerated smokey eye. This is a gorgeous homage to bedtime makeup. Jennings and team got the job done in smoldering and catty condition with the help of the MAC Eye Kohl Pencil. I then applied MACStack mascara to my top and bottom lashes and lids to create perfectly imperfect dotted specs.
While many models wore bright red MAC lips, Jennings went for a two-tone lip for supermodel Precious Lee. The bold choice was achieved with his MACXimal matte lipstick with caviar, which complemented Lee’s blue and feathery runway look. Finally, Jennings applied dewy gloss to her eyes and lips to frame her look.
When it comes to hair, the amazing Jawara Wauchope was inspired to create a fascinating interpretation of the horror movie character. Each model’s hairstyle was tailored to their hair type and face shape, but the key design was side-swept hair that fell across the face. Despite the illusion of wet hair, Jawara used the newly released Dyson Her Supersonic R Professional hair dryer to create touch-dry hair. This combination created a sinister, sexy look that he described as “nasty, sexy, and disgusting.”
Overall, the hair and makeup worked together to create a beautiful, goth-inspired runway moment. But what’s the cherry on top? Nothing makes Black History Month feel happier than seeing two Black beauty veterans lead the charge behind the scenes during Fashion Month.
