Police have closed their investigation into a “creepy” video that appears to show a man grinning after biting a boy’s ear at the World Snooker Championship.
Despite concerns that something sinister was happening on screen, police determined that no crime had been committed.
The exchange was caught on live television on April 25th, when seven-time winner Stephen Hendry was speaking during a break in a performance at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre.
Social media users quickly drew attention to the crowd behind Hendry, where an adult man was leaning over and whispering in the ear of what appeared to be a teenage boy.
He then lightly nibbled on the boy’s earlobe and smiled shyly as the boy waved to the camera.
The video has been viewed millions of times and fans are in shock.
One person wrote: “This is so awful he should definitely be locked up. He bit the kid’s ear and then shook his head like that when he saw himself on camera.”
“This is very troubling,” said another.
“I threw up,” commented a third.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed they were aware of the footage and said they were “investigating its contents”.
Police have closed the case until further information warrants an investigation.
A spokesman told Metro.co.uk: “After reviewing the video, police have determined no criminal offences have been committed and have launched an investigation.”
A World Snooker Tour spokesman said: “We are aware of this incident and it is now a police matter.”
