Trish Wellenbach, president and CEO of Please Touch Museum, said that while most museums ask visitors not to touch anything, research shows that children do best when they play. He said it has been shown that he can learn.
“Play is a multisensory experience, and it involves allowing and encouraging children to touch, listen, and explore,” she said.
Other exhibits include crickets, tuk-tuks and electric rickshaws that visitors can ride in for simulated experiences, as well as a set where visitors can learn about the Indian film industry.
“Bollywood is actually the largest film industry in the world,” Thomas said. “Visitors can watch clips from Bollywood movies. They can walk the red carpet.”
Wellenbach said the Please Touch Museum displays three special exhibits each year, sometimes representing vibrant cultures and communities from around the world.
“It’s for children from African-American, Chinese, Japanese, Irish-American, Italian-American and Polish-American families,” she says. “You can learn about different cultures while having fun.”
