Amid recent social media criticism regarding the OnePlus 12R smartphone’s storage specifications, OnePlus has issued a clear statement. The company has addressed concerns raised by users and confirmed that the device will feature UFS 3.1 storage across all variants, contrary to initial reports suggesting the presence of UFS 4.0.
The controversy arose from a discrepancy between what OnePlus initially said and what users discovered upon closer inspection. At the launch of the smartphone, OnePlus had hinted that the base 128GB version would come with his UFS 3.1 storage, while the 256GB version would come with faster UFS 4.0 technology.

UFS 4.0 storage is known for faster read and write speeds and enhanced thermal management capabilities, which are especially beneficial for power users. However, OnePlus President Kinder Liu admitted that there was a miscommunication regarding storage specifications.
In a community post, Liu said, “Due to an error, storage powered by Trinity Engine will be UFS 4.0 in some versions. Currently, storage on all versions of OnePlus 12R will still be powered by Trinity. We can confirm that this is the case.” Engine, but actually he is UFS 3.1. ”
Liu expressed regret for the oversight and apologized to customers who purchased or pre-ordered the OnePlus 12R. He encouraged affected individuals to contact OnePlus’ customer service team for further assistance.
UFS 4.0 offers faster transfer speeds and more power efficiency than UFS 3.1, while both versions guarantee data encryption and provide enhanced security.
OnePlus AI features
Meanwhile, a ColorOS update by OnePlus with three generative AI features, including an AI Summariser, an image editing tool, and an article summary generator, is rolling out in China for the latest OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 11 models. While smartphone brands like Google and Samsung have already adopted generative AI in their flagship phones, OnePlus initially took a different approach with the OnePlus 12. However, things are about to change as his OnePlus 11 and OnePlus 12 in China are now gaining new generative AI features. The media is reporting on the latest ColorOS update.
It’s unclear whether OnePlus intends to extend generation AI capabilities to the global version of its flagship OnePlus devices, which run on OxygenOS rather than ColorOS. However, given that both operating systems are nearly identical in every respect, there seems to be no obvious reason why this would not be possible.
