Britain’s skies have turned shades of pink and green as the Northern Lights have brought an incredible sight to sky-gazers.
The impressive Northern Lights, usually only seen in the north of Britain, could be seen overnight across much of the UK, including Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and, unusually, southern England.
The display began after the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) yesterday issued its first severe solar storm warning since 2005. When a huge geomagnetic storm hurtles toward the Earth.
NOAA announced that a G5 geomagnetic storm, considered the most extreme and most powerful geomagnetic storm, struck Earth on Thursday, posing a risk of impacting communications, GPS, and power grids.
Auroral displays occur when charged particles around magnetic poles collide with gases in Earth’s atmosphere.
This amazing display was also witnessed in the northern United States, Canada, Ireland, and Scandinavia.
Met Office meteorologist Chris Snell said: “It’s difficult to fully predict what will happen in Earth’s atmosphere, but solar activity will increase again tonight, so northern parts of the UK could see the light again. ” he said. , including Scotland, Northern Ireland and the far north of England. ”
