Police are investigating an attack with a “corrosive substance” near Clapham.
The Metropolitan Police said on Wednesday it was investigating an attack with a “corrosive substance” that injured nine people, including two young children.
Superintendent Alexander Castle said a woman and two young children were injured in the suspected targeted attack. Three police officers and three adult civilians were also injured after coming to the victim’s aid.
Police were called to SW4 Lesser Avenue, near the Clapham area of south London, just before 7.30pm local time, where a woman and two children were injured by a “corrosive substance” which is currently being tested, according to reports. castle.
“We will update as we learn more about their condition,” Castle said in the release. “Three police officers were also taken to hospital after responding to the incident. Fortunately, we believe their injuries are minor.”
Castle said no arrests have been made so far, but police are searching for a man who was allegedly seen “fleeing the scene.”
“We are marshaling resources from across the Met to arrest this individual and work is underway to determine what led to this horrific incident,” he said.
Met Police report that the Police Aviation Unit is assisting with the investigation. Authorities are asking members of the public who can help with information or materials to call 999 immediately.
