Chopwell Primary School in Newcastle is celebrating a successful trip to India where pupils learned about another culture. In January, the school took 20 children on a 10-day trip to Rajkot region to visit its affiliated Panchshil School.
Chopwell previously took students to another partner school in Nancy, France. The trip to India was made possible thanks to funding from the Turing Plan through Newcastle City Council. The purpose of this trip was for the children to experience another culture.
Vic Bruce, headteacher at Chopwell Primary School, said: “This visit felt a world away from Chopwell Primary School and lifelong friendships were formed. The language barrier was overcome and strong bonds with our partner schools were established. I was born,” he said.
“The children were immersed in Indian culture, embraced each new experience with enthusiasm, and experienced more in 10 days than most of us do in a lifetime. The responsibility of transporting someone else’s child was a heavy one.” It was a very difficult task, but with careful planning, good communication, enthusiasm and resilience, we managed to pull it off.
“The words of thanks from our parents, carers and children have been fantastic. Our children have represented Chopwell Primary School wonderfully as ambassadors of the future. We hope to visit our partner schools again next year with another group of children.”
