Daryl Mitchell has been ruled out of New Zealand’s second Test against South Africa in Hamilton and the upcoming T20I series against Australia.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) ruled him out to give him enough time to recover from a foot injury. Mitchell did not play in the T20I final against Pakistan and also missed Canterbury’s Super Smash final against Auckland.
he returned to play in Opening Test against South Africa at Bay Oval At Mt Maunganui he scored 34, with 11 not out.
However, Mitchell continued to feel discomfort and NZC decided to give him an extended rehabilitation period.
Black Caps head coach Gary Stead said Mitchell was rested with the Test series against Australia starting on February 29 in mind.
“We took the opportunity to rest him a little early, but having also sought medical advice on this, it is likely that he will require a longer period of time,” Stead said in a press release. Ta.
“It’s going to be really tough because we don’t have a lot of time off next week, but I think it’s close to three weeks to give him the best chance of recovery.
“While there is no guarantee that this will still work within that time frame, we are very hopeful that this increases the likelihood that he will survive a longer stint with us.”

The Kiwis have not named a replacement for Mitchell, but Will Young is most likely to join the playing eleven.
Stead also confirmed that Canterbury bowler Will O’Rourke remains in contention for a debut. Former captain Kane Williamson is likely to miss the series against Australia as his wife is pregnant with their third child.
On Wednesday, Tim Southee’s New Zealand defeated South Africa by 281 runs to take a 1-0 lead in their second consecutive match.
The T20I match between Australia and Australia will begin on Wednesday, February 21st.
