A glam mum has admitted she booked an eyelash and eyebrow appointment hours before her scheduled C-section to look ‘perfect’ when she gave birth, but ended up looking ‘horrible’. Seven months into her first pregnancy, Melissa Oakes was told the baby in her womb was breech and she was booked for a scheduled C-section.
After being told the exact date and time of childbirth, the construction company secretary worked diligently to prepare the operating table and underwent a complete beauty makeover. On her due date, Melissa shelled out £50 for Russian eyelashes and spent £15 waxing her eyebrows.
Admitting she was “very concerned about the way she looked”, she got a £25 spray tan in her kitchen the night before her caesarean section and had her nails painted with blue gel for £25. Before heading to her hospital, Melissa said she took care of herself, including taking a bath, moisturizing thoroughly and curling her hair.
The 28-year-old said her boyfriend Matthew Shaw, 28, and her eyelash technician thought she was “crazy” for booking a lash and eyebrow appointment so close to giving birth. Despite spending more than £100 on beauty treatments, the mum-of-one now opts for a less ‘luxurious’ hospital look if she has another child. He said it would be.
Melissa, from Wigan, Greater Manchester, said: ‘Throughout my pregnancy, my daughter was breech so her head was in her ribcage. [Due to this] At 7 months old, I was scheduled for a elective caesarean section and was told when my baby would be born.
“I was completely terrified of giving birth and straining, so even if I hadn’t been breech, I would have chosen a planned C-section. The C-section made me feel more prepared, so I had my eyelashes and eyebrows removed. I’ve arranged it.”
“I have an appointment that morning, so [my c-section] It helped calm my nerves. My eyelash technician thought it was weird that I was doing it that morning, but they needed it to be perfect.
“My boyfriend also thought I was crazy, but I get beauty treatments every two weeks so I guess I’m used to it at this point. He didn’t expect anything more.” I really didn’t want to be pregnant, it was taking a huge toll on my body and mental health and going to these beauty treatments made me feel better and that’s what he said. I think he knew that it made me happy.
“Initially, the only appointment she had was for 12 p.m. [for my lashes] And I told her I couldn’t do this because it was a C-section and she had to push me forward. The morning of my c-section, I spent the entire morning pampering myself, took a bath, then went outside to curl all my hair and make sure to moisturize.
“I was a bit scared and tried to relax as much as possible. Looking back now, I wish I hadn’t had all the treatments, even though I was so concerned about how I looked.”
“Before she was born, I was running around trying to get all kinds of treatments, but the end result was her problem, not mine.” [my daughter]. I can honestly say that the picture my boyfriend has of me is the most horrifying thing on this earth that he can ever show, and despite all the effort I put into it, I can honestly say that the picture of me that my boyfriend has I thought it wouldn’t look any better. ”
Melissa, who arrived at the hospital at noon, gave birth to a 7-pound, 3-ounce daughter, Leonora Shaw, at 5 p.m. on August 5, 2021. She said that before she got pregnant, she was obsessed with social media and her appearance, but now she doesn’t prioritize herself. Online appearance.
“I wish I had to go through that because I’m a big believer in not having any regrets,” Melissa said. [giving birth] At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter so I might not go for the luxury again. The only thing that matters is that your baby is safe and healthy, so you won’t have to put as much effort into it next time.
“I don’t have any regrets, but I learned a lesson about what’s important. Before I had kids, I used to worry a lot about social media, but now I don’t.”
And after posting a photo on TikTok about her prenatal eyelash and eyebrow appointment, Melissa’s post received over 71,000 views and 3,000 likes, and users were quick to share the same with them. I commented that I did it. “I know a lot of girls who had all these treatments before they gave birth,” Melissa said.
“I think someone commented on my post announcing the birth saying, ‘You’re wearing eyelashes,’ but 99% of the other comments said I looked great. ” One user said, “Priority. I have to look my best so I can meet my baby!”
