The mother of two Australian surfers allegedly shot dead by robbers in Mexico says the world has become a “darker place for us” after their deaths.

Debra Robinson paid tribute to her sons on a San Diego beach Tuesday.
“Our hearts have been broken and the world has become a dark place for us,” she said. “They were young people who were enjoying their passion for surfing together.
“Jake’s passion was surfing, and it was no coincidence that many of the hospitals he worked at were located near surfing beaches.”
“Live bigger, shine brighter and love more in their memory,” she said, thanking government officials and supporters in Australia and the United States.
Mrs Robinson, who also paid tribute to Jack Carter Lord, said her sons’ bodies and ashes would eventually be brought back to Australia.
“Now it’s time to take them home to their families and friends,” she said. “And in Australia, the ocean awaits.”
Prosecutors identified three people as potential suspects, two of whom were arrested with methamphetamine. One of them, a woman, reportedly had one of the victims’ cellphones in her possession when she was arrested.

Prosecutors said the two were being held on drug charges but remained suspects in the murder case.
A third man was arrested on charges amounting to kidnapping, but that was before the body was discovered. It’s unclear when or if he will face further charges.
Prosecutors say a third man is believed to have been directly involved in the killing.
Callum, 33, Jake, 30, and their friend Jack, also 30, posted pictures of the isolated beach on social media shortly before they went missing.
Callum was reportedly living in the United States with the aim of becoming a professional lacrosse player, and Jake, a doctor, had flown in to visit him two weeks earlier.
Prosecutor María Elena Andrade Ramírez said the thieves likely saw the truck and tent and targeted the tires, but they likely resisted.
She said the body was taken to a “very difficult to access location” in Baja California.
A well near where the truck and tent were found also contained a fourth body, which had been there for much longer, she added.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Tuesday he had asked for an opportunity to speak to Mrs Robinson and her husband Martin.
“This is a terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to them,” Albanese said.
