He discussed his own career path to date and how he uses his own extensive background and experience to foster a culture of inclusion and equality.
“I am from Mexico and began my academic journey by studying economics for my undergraduate degree,” Francisco said. “He then moved to the United States to pursue a graduate degree in industrial labor relations at Cornell University.” His educational pursuits laid a solid foundation for his career in the human resources field.
Francisco spent 17 years at a company that allowed him to work in different locations around the world, which ultimately shaped his understanding of the importance of diversity and inclusion. “Exposing me to different cultures and business environments was incredibly enriching and helped shape my worldview and approach to work,” he explained.
“I’m excited about the work we’re doing.”
About five years ago, Francisco moved to Moody’s, initially taking on the role of Global Head of Compensation. This new role allows him to utilize his skills and experience in a different context. He then moved into the role of Partner at People His Business, working closely with various departments of the business, ultimately paving the way to his current position. He currently serves as Moody’s Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer, where he uses his diverse experience and insights to foster an inclusive culture within the organization. “This is a challenging and rewarding role for me, and I am excited about the work we are undertaking,” he said.
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Francisco reflected on the challenges he faced growing up in a Latin American society steeped in traditional values. “The fear of rejection, the conflict with tradition, and the courage to be true to yourself can be daunting.” But to his surprise, he found solace and acceptance at work. “I found an unexpected sense of peace at work,” he says. “I’m lucky to work for a company that not only welcomes but celebrates diversity. At a time when acceptance was a bit rare, work became a safe space for me and encouraged growth. Companies like Moody’s have shown me that credibility and success can coexist. Throughout his career, Francisco has witnessed significant advances in attitudes towards diversity and inclusion. “We’re seeing a shift from a mindset where he promotes DE&I simply because it’s the right thing to do, to one where he sees DE&I as a business imperative and a competitive advantage.”

Reflecting on standout moments in his career, Francisco cited his decision to leave his previous firm to join Moody’s as a defining moment. “It was a risk. I had only good experience at my previous company, but I felt that the opportunities for growth were limited,” he recalled. The move to Moody’s provided Francisco with new avenues for personal and professional development.

“In my career and personal life, I have seen great progress regarding LGBTQ+ rights and equality, but the reality is that the experience remains very different,” he explained. “Not all members of our community or all countries and territories have the same access to the rights and freedoms that we have achieved in some cases, especially in some areas where it is still difficult to be LGBTQ+. , I want to see progress for other members of the LGBTQ+ community.”
