Gardeners World viewers got some great tips on how to grow vegetables without using scraps. In the latest episode of the hit BBC show, lead girlfriend presenter Monty Don introduced viewers to fellow gardening enthusiast Maria, who discovered this method ‘by accident’.
She spoke from her garden, showing people how they can get their vegetables and salad ingredients with just a bowl of water. Maria, a fan of Gardeners Her World, said she wanted to share her tips so others can get delicious food for free.
She explained that she discovered the method while trying to make her own plant-based food using food scraps, but “quickly forgot about it” after soaking it in water. Maria continued: “After a few weeks, to our surprise, we discovered that many of them had actually grown into new plants.

“Perfect your salad with new vegetables.” Maria then explains exactly how she harvests and photographs new roots, while revealing how others can do the same. Did.
She explained: “The first thing to do is to take lettuce, for example, cut it to about 3 centimeters (from the bottom), remove the old outer leaves, and put it in water on a windowsill.”
Maria continues. “After a few weeks, the roots will appear. As soon as the roots begin to appear, you can pot them up.”
Highlighting some of the easiest items to grow new roots, she said cabbage is “really easy” to grow in the same way, as is celery. She also showed that she is great with green onions.
She showed viewers a pot of homemade celery with large sticks ready to eat. The best part, Maria said, is that it “costs absolutely nothing.”
Monty, 68, was certainly impressed. He said it was a “great tip” and “not something I thought I would do.” He added that it’s “perfect for limited space.”
Gardener’s World currently airs Friday nights at 8pm on BBC Two.
