Two weeks later, the Capitals confirmed that Marsh would miss the remainder of the IPL after his initial recovery from injury took longer than expected.
“The ham is in good shape. It’s going very well,” Marsh said. “It’s pretty much where we want it to be. It’s one of those things. We just have three weeks to adjust and get on the plane.
“If I had to play tomorrow, it would be a little bit of a problem. There’s still a few weeks left and it’s probably perfect timing if there’s no setbacks.”
“Whenever you get selected for a World Cup squad, there’s only 15 players, so some have to miss out,” Marsh said. “But I think we’ve got a really great team that we’ve picked. We’re versatile, we’ve got a lot of experience, and that brings a lot of excitement.”
Australia will hold two separate training camps in Brisbane in each of the next two weeks for players not playing in the IPL. Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa, Ashton Agar, Josh Inglis and Marsh will head there to get their nets and fitness ready before heading to the Caribbean. Xavier Bartlett and Spencer Johnson, who did not make the team but could be available as reserve players for the trip, are also likely to play. Bartlett and Johnson will head to England to take part in the T20 Blast at the end of May.
“It’s still causing him quite a bit of discomfort,” Bailey said Wednesday. “So obviously we’re going to monitor that. Hopefully he can come back and play a few more games in the IPL and finish, but I think it’s just one of those games and it’s just… I think it’s a deep bone bruise and it’s going to take a while.”
“But I don’t think anyone can give him a clear answer as to how long that will be.”
“It’s been a long time since Davey had a hurray, wasn’t it?” said Marsh. “We’re always really excited to have him join the team, just the experience he brings. I think when you look back at his career, we’ve got great players with a lot of experience that need to step up. There were a lot of big moments and Davey made it happen.” He was always one of those guys, so we were lucky to have him. ”
