Councilor Mike Freer has announced he will resign at the next general election, citing safety concerns.
A man has been charged in connection with threats made against Conservative MP Mike Freer.
The Metropolitan Police announced that James Phillips, 46, from north London, has been charged with malicious communication.
Police said Freer’s office reported on February 1 that the minister had received an abusive phone call the previous day.
Councilors for Mr Finchley and Golders Green are set to stand down at the next election, citing safety concerns.
Phillips, who was arrested Tuesday, is also charged with assaulting a police officer, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
He is due to appear at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
A separate investigation into the Christmas Eve arson attack at an MP’s office in Finchley, north London, is underway, with two men and a man charged with arson with intent to endanger life, the Met Office said. added.
The force said an investigation determined the crime was not a hate crime and the two incidents were not believed to be related.
Detective Inspector Will Rexton-Jones, from the local police team in north-west London, said: “It is vitally important for elected officials and their staff to be able to feel confident that they are safe and secure, and we will ensure this. I am trying my best to do so.”
“Today’s arrests send a clear message that we will not tolerate intimidation or attacks of any kind against our elected officials. We will respond swiftly and decisively to such crimes.”
