Fitness fans are turning to the new Meta Quest 3 virtual reality unit to help them get back in shape post-Christmas.
The headset comes with a variety of fitness and sports apps for your workout, and thanks to its mixed reality capabilities, you can sweat it out right in your living room with a virtual trainer.
The popular app FitXR offers what it describes as “reality-changing fitness” with a number of virtual classes delivered by professional trainers in seven different computer-generated studios.
There are also unique workouts like the “slam”. It’s similar to his HIIT classes, but with a gaming element, where you run around your living room slamming and punching virtual balls into walls and ceilings.
It all works thanks to the clever Quest 3’s passthrough feature, which has a camera on the front of the device.
These cameras see the room around you like eyes, but pass through the headset, allowing you to add computer-generated characters and objects.
So you’re in your room, but with the addition of VR games and a personal trainer.
Gym Class is another top fitness app that gives you access to a variety of American-based sports.
Due to its competitive nature, this feels even more fun than other gym training apps.
We put it to the test and found ourselves playing one-on-one basketball against virtual opponents on an incredibly realistic sports court, hoop shooting and slam dunking like the pros.
Your arms will hurt and you’ll definitely be sweating.
You can also play multiplayer American football ballgames with friends, and the graphics shine on the new £479 machine.
I also tried the popular app CleanSheet.
This is a professional goalkeeper training simulator that traps you between the posts in a virtual soccer stadium.
Challenge friends or random players from around the world to prove you’re a better shot stopper than them, or go it alone in a series of matchday drills against AI opponents.
Plus, Quickfire mode sees you jump around the vestibule, stretch, and punch a VR soccer ball while the machine fires the ball towards the goal, making it a great way to boost your fitness in January. It’s a method.
A spokesperson for the game said: See how you perform on global leaderboards, set weekly fitness goals, and track the calories you burn while aiming for the top score. ”
When I tried it, I was able to punch a real light hanging from the ceiling, but in the VR world I managed to thwart a belter from a red belt lad.
Physical strength isn’t everything.
There’s a growing library of mental wellness apps aimed at getting you back on track for 2024.
Experiences like Tripp, which offers more than 100 fully immersive meditation experiences set in stunning landscapes and virtual worlds, are worth checking out, and there are other, more colorful alternatives to enjoy when the weather outside is cloudy. We provide the world with certainty.
Innerworld is another great service that offers users the opportunity to “learn evidence-based mental health tools and receive support in a place where they feel safe to be themselves” to overcome the challenges they’re experiencing.
Although Meta Quest 3 is new, the library it offers continues to expand, and while it’s wintery outside, it’s well worth taking the time to explore the growing fitness category.
