Meghan Markle held a surprise engagement via video link at London’s Mayhew Animal Home today.
The Duchess of Sussex, who quit royal duties four years ago, has virtually launched a new arm of her animal charity, named in honor of her late friend Ori Juste.

Meghan met dog trainer Juste in 2019, just three years before her death in January 2022.
In January 2019, the former working royal became patron of London-based animal shelter Mayhew.
In a video message watched by Juste’s friends and family, Meghan said: “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the incredible team at Mayhew who have worked tirelessly to make this dream a reality.”
“It was so important to us to find a way to celebrate Oli’s memory in a way that Oli would have loved.

The Duchess of Sussex emotionally spoke of how heartbroken she was by Juste’s death in January 2022.
Giusto’s friends and family gathered at The Mayhew in north-west London, where the Ori Giusto wing was unveiled in his honor.
Mayhew is understood to be Meghan’s favorite animal charity and was introduced by Juste to take on the role of patron in a personal capacity.

A statement from Sussex.com detailed the Duchess and Juste’s bond, saying: “Through their friendship they shared much, including a deep commitment to animal welfare and a love of rescue dogs. Ta.
“Oli Juste Wings is a testament to his unwavering love and dedication to our furry friends, improving the lives of countless animals and inspiring compassion, connection, and caring in all of us. It reminds me of my strength.”
Meghan wrote in 2022 that she was “heartbroken” by Juste’s death.
