For anime fans, the Golden Arches-inspired WcDonald’s will be a regular feature in many of your favorite movies and TV shows. As part of a collaboration with some of the biggest names in anime, the fast food giant’s new campaign is a real-life take on a fictional restaurant.
Building on the brand’s 2023 campaign, which showcased its influence on the world of film and television with clips from Clueless to The Office, the latest global push from Wieden+Kennedy New York marks a milestone in animation history. It emphasizes the brand position.
“Anime is a big part of today’s culture, and we’re thrilled that our fans will continue to engage us in conversations over the years,” said Tariq, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, McDonald’s U.S. Hassan said. “The world of WackDonalds reflects what our fans have created. It honors their vision and celebrates their creativity.”
The integrated campaign includes an immersive dining experience in Los Angeles that can be booked on OpenTable. Diners can step into the world of WcDonald through 360-degree projection mapping and tabletop projections while enjoying a set food menu (including WcNuggets).
A new savory sauce, WcDonald’s Sauce, is also available in 30 markets around the world, with limited edition manga-inspired packaging created by Japanese manga artist and illustrator Akki Bright.
Scan the QR code on your package to receive a weekly digital comic drop featuring the entire cast of WcDonald characters, including patron Hashirune, crew jokester Mr. Bev, and our very own mecha, WcDizer 3000. You will be able to access it.
The brand is also collaborating on its debut animated series with legendary animation house Studio Pierrot, which will be featured weekly on wcdonalds.com with manga designs. This short honors his four biggest subgenres of anime: action, romance, mecha, and fantasy, and the story ranges from an epic race to Wakudonald to a quest to save the last Wakunugget from an unearthly force. It covers a wide range of things.
