Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has endured a very tough 12 months.
When looking back at Mason Mount’s difficult start to life at Manchester United, it’s important to note that his struggles didn’t start at Old Trafford.
Mount missed the final months of last season at Chelsea through injury, and has struggled for form that season.
The £55m United paid for him was based on his past success, and perhaps his potential, rather than his 2022/23 player.

Mason Mount’s tough start at United
A move to Manchester United was seen as a much-needed fresh start for Mason Mount, but it was a continuation of his time at Chelsea last season.
His body is not holding up and he has two separate injuries. And even when he’s fit, he’s either not fitting into the Manchester United squad or he’s sitting on the bench.
He has not played at all since November last year and injury updates from the club lack detail or accuracy regarding his potential return.

So it’s good to see some development, with Mount himself providing updates.
Mason mount update
Mason Mount posted an update on his fitness on Instagram.
He showed a photo of himself practicing hard indoors at Carrington and captioned it with one word: “Progress.”
Mr Mount’s message was followed by two replies from prominent colleagues at Manchester United and England.
United captain Bruno Fernandes replied: “We’re almost there.”
Meanwhile, Declan Rice, an English colleague and friend of Mount’s from Chelsea’s academy, wrote: “What a scene.”

Mount’s departure is likely to be several weeks away, and realistically we won’t see him on the pitch before the international break in late March.
As a result, his return date could be set for a Premier League match against Liverpool in early April. That’s what Mount should aim for.
