This is the tense moment when police raided a bus in south London after receiving a report of a man with an “unknown substance”.
The 44-year-old threatened passengers on the number 109 bus, which runs between Brixton and Croydon.
Just after 10.30pm last night, emergency services, including London Police’s Community Support Group in blue hazmat suits, were called to London Road in Croydon.
Footage circulating on social media shows several police cars at the scene of the incident.
Passengers got off the bus, but it is understood that no substance was thrown at anyone and no one was injured.
No one was taken hostage, despite online reports suggesting otherwise.
After police arrested the man, chemical experts were called to the scene to assess the substance.
The area from Brickstock Road to Thornton Heath Garage was sealed off.
A security perimeter was established to contain the situation and prevent harm to the public.
