What is the format of the World Matchplay?
World Matchplay is a leg-based tournament, with the number of legs needed to win increasing as the round progresses.
Each match must be won in two legs unless the score is tied after six legs.
- Round 1: First to 10 legs (sudden death at 12-12)
- Round 2: First to 11 legs (sudden death at 13-13)
- Quarter finals: First to 16 legs (18-18 sudden death)
- Semi-finals: First to 17 legs (19-19 sudden death)
- Last: First to 18 legs (sudden death at 20-20)
Who’s playing?
The top 16 players on the PDC Merit Rankings are invited to compete in the World Matchplay.
In addition, the top 16 players on the PDC Pro Tour Prize Money List will join, making a total of 32 players.
Cast members include Gerwyn Price, Luke Humphreys, Nathan Aspinall, Jonny Clayton, Luke Littler, Rob Cross, Peter Wright, Michael Smith and Michael van Gerwen.
Last year Nathan Aspinall beat Jonny Clayton 18-6 to win the prestigious title for the first time in his career and take home the £200,000 jackpot.

Teenage sensation Luke Littler, who took the darts world by storm at the World Championships earlier this year, will be taking part in the tournament for the first time.
However, the youngster is not scheduled to play until Monday.
